Each character is fully-formed: self-centered Narcissus, too proud to love anyone but himself; the sculptor Pygmalion, who falls in love with his own statue; the sweet old married couple Baucis and Philemon, whom even the gods honor. The centerpiece of the tape, though, is Weiss´ tale of the princess Atlanta and the hero Hippomenes, who must out-run her in a race in order to marry her. Taking care to portray these characters´ intelligence, humor and insightfulness, the storyteller joins with a children's chorus to create a rendition unique to Weiss´ style.
