The Clatter Pillar makes an amazingly clickity-clack sound that can change as you play, from a gentle ripple to a clattering crescendo!
A fun musical instrument for children 3 years and up. The Claterpillar is a modern, child friendly version of the Japanese Kokiriko. We have found it to be a great toy for teaching hand co-ordination and rythm!

Using an up and down movement with both hands the Clatter Pillar's segments clap against each other to create a clattery sound. Try different speeds and you will soon see your movements turn into rhythm.
This unique stripy rattler produces satisfying sound that every child will enjoy. A real musical instrument as well as a toy, the Clatter Pillar provides an ideal introduction to rhythm and music making and is suitable for group and individual play.

These can be found in therapy catalogs, costing much more. The repetitve motion and the sound are soothing to senses of some children, like rocking or humming. They can also be used to help narrate a book (make the sound when I should turn the page, etc.)

I bought this musical toy for my child when he was still a baby but I think the clatterpillar would be better suited to older children. For babies 6 months to a year, I think they can hurt themselves if they fling and flap the clatterpillar around.
