Wooden construction toy cars for budding minds by Automoblox! 

Ape to Zebra now stocks the award-winning Automoblox range of educational wooden cars!   The Automoblox construction toys are designed by the renowned industrial designer Patrick Calello. 

The Automoblox toy car consists of wooden car body sections (made from solid german beech wood) with patented plastic interconnects, polycarbonate wheels and rubber tires, plastic passengers and polycarbonate screens.

Each Automoblox can be disassembled into its component parts and re-assembled.  Parts from different cars can be combined to allow children to design their own models to suit the unique sense of style. Originally developed in 2003, the wood used in the Automoblox range was canadian maple, but from 2005 the Automoblox wood was changed to german beech.

The Automoblox cars encourage open ended play and incorporate educational features to develop key skills (colors, shapes, fine motor skills, problem solving) in younger children. Automoblox have won several awards including an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum award.  The original Automoblox range consisted of three models, but the Automoblox range have since been expanded to the six main models listed below.

Automoblox cars are designed to encourage children to disassemble and reassemble them which helps develop fine motor skills. The patented Automoblox body connectors have different shapes for each model and the passengers in each Automoblox car have specifically shaped bases which lock into matching sockets in the car to encourage shape recognition and matching. The color coding of each Automoblox car encourages color recognition and matching. The ability to combine parts from different Automoblox cars encourages goal oriented play and open ended problem solving.
